On November 18, during the sitting of the newly elected CEC composition was elected the leadership of this body. Eugen Stirbu (proposed as CEC member by the Democratic Party) became CEC Chairperson, Renata Lapti (proposed by Christian Democratic Popular Party) was elected Vice-chairperson and Iurie Ciocan (proposed by Party of Communists’) was elected as CEC Secretary.
According to article 17 (3) of the Electoral Code the Vice-Chairperson and Secretary of the commission shall work on a permanent basis. Other members of the commission shall be summoned by the Chairperson on a case-by-case basis. The Chairman of the Commission is equal to the function of Minister, whereas the Deputy Chairman and Secretary are equal to the function of deputy-minister.
